THE STREETS OF ANKARA

From December 2021 through April 2022 I made a series of drawings/sketches of Ankara, the capital of Turkey, using Google Street View. While a visit in person is always prefereable, it isn’t always possible. My solitary virtual adventures took me to districts and neighborhoods of the city I’d never had the chance to visit in person. Whenever an interesting view of a street or building caught my eye, I’d stop to make a sketch, just as one would do on actual location. Only the sounds and smells, the heat and the cold, the bugs, the traffic, and the casual conversations with strangers were left to my imagination.

The captions contain the street address followed by the date I did the drawing. In a few cases I forgot to record the address and was unable to find it again later. Towards the end of the series, I made a little side trip to Nevşehir in Cappadocia.
