a little bit about me

Born in the Netherlands, my journey has taken me through diverse cultures, with significant time spent in the USA, Turkey, and Germany. My academic foundation in art was laid at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where I earned a BA in 1995. Over the years, my work has gained international recognition, and was featured in exhibitions across the USA, Turkey, and Europe, while also being included in various private and corporate collections globally.

As a member of both the International Watercolor Society-Holland and Kunstbrücke International, my passion for art continues to evolve. A noteworthy shift occurred in 2022 when I embraced Islamic Geometric Art. The aesthetic beauty and rich history of this art form captured my imagination, as reflected in my current portfolio of patterns painted in watercolor and gouache, alongside a selection of earlier works.

about islamic art

Throughout history, the Islamic world has beautifully blended geometric and biomorphic patterns into art and architecture, reflecting deep cultural and spiritual significance. These designs symbolize the infinite and the divine, with intricate motifs derived from nature and mathematics. Geometric patterns foster a sense of harmony and order, while arabesques convey life and growth. This rich tradition not only has aesthetic appeal but also invites contemplation. Embracing these historical patterns in a modern context allows for a celebration of heritage and innovation.
